East London, Essex, & the City of London.
This site is about the History of East London & Essex , which share many links. Much of the early history of Essex is now entwined into that of the East of London - and some areas are still in Essex, but feel more a part of London.
London Railway Map of 1899 - this is stunning.
Thanks go to http://www.victorianlondon.org for this excellent resource.
You can see the early Metropolitan Underground railway which goes through tunnels and deep cuttings; near the top right of the map is the area for the major International sporting event in 2011 + 1; which will regenerate the London marshes in Hackney.
