Raymond Leggett ran The Chichester Arms 89 Evelyn Street Deptford and then his son took over John Leggett, the pub was destroyed by enemy action in early 1943 . A bomber trying for the naval yards hit a school and the pub. John and all his staff were killed, and John's body was never found. The only survivor was the pub monkey, who then had to be destroyed as it went mad. Raymond's other son David ran The
Three Tuns in Bow. ***
