May Bush, Alresford

Alresford circa 1918 family group

A family group - circa 1918 *

John LEE's daughter Martha married Edward GORHAM in 1848 at Alresford, and their  son Henry Edward is the chap  on the photograph.

A few years ago I had correspondence with a Mr. Stanley RICE ( now deceased) whose father & grandfather & gt grandfather were on the picture. He  very kindly sent me the copy. He told me that his father ( a young boy at the time) remembers his own father telling him that a Mr.GORHAM had come a long way from Hull to visit. That was my gt grandfather (Henry Edward GORHAM) who had moved from Essex to Hull a number of years earlier. I don't know why he was in Essex at that particular time, perhaps a family  funeral, although I don't know of any event around that year ( circa 1918).

I can identify some of them  :.William J.RICE - back row 2nd from left, Arthur J.RICE- middle row, with full beard, seated in front of his son (noted above) ; Henry Edward GORHAM- middle row, goatee beard, seated next to a lady with small girl on her knee.(Henry Edward is Arthur J.Rice's brother in law who was married to Lydia GORHAM); Robert J.RICE -Front row, (a young boy wearing a sort of Eton collar)  seated directly in front of Arthur J.RICE *

If you can identify any others in the photograph, Margaret would love to hear from you.

I get hundreds of emails every day, fortunately most 'spam mails' are deleted by my mail scan settings. The final emails are delivered to various email addresses, and replying to these are not always successful. If you do not hear from me in a timely fashion, please feel free to email again, I do not mind! This is a pure PUBS history site, I doubt if I know where the PUBS are NOW, but try the site for where they were a hundred years ago, again enjoy!
