Elizabeth Jermy from Norfolk, met and married Richard Aldous and by 1874 the
pair were settled in the Volunteer in Barking. When Richard died, as the
result of falling from scaffolding at the pub - apparently taking ale up to
workmen on the site - Elizabeth remarried, to William Nichols, 20 years her
junior and little older than her own children. **
Mary Ann Jermy, Elizabeths niece, can be found at the
Duke of York
whilst her sister Harriet Jermy can be found at the
Coopers Arms,
**
Elizabeths two sisters can be found in the 1881 census, i.e. Hannah Maria
Jermy is a servant at 260 Roman
Road, Bow; and Eliza Jermy
is housekeeper to Henry Smith at 413 Old Ford Road, Bow - later the
White
Hart. **
Richard Aldous was a Butcher in the 1871 census, in Barking.
