Black Lion, Layer Marney
The Black Lion, in Layer Marney, Essex; is now called "Almonds" or "Almonds Farmhouse". The property has been added to since its original times, as there are now breeze block outhouses. Local residents seem to remember it as a pub in about 1930. Map of 1948 shows it as Almonds, map of 1927 shows it as un-named.
A search of Daniell's brewery for more info was unsuccessful, but this was subsumed into a major London brewery in the 50s, so no joy there. It presently has no well or water pump, and I find that hard to explain - unless beer was only carted in by the barrel load. ***
