The Historical Directory of Pubs in the South East of England, including London

Search the Historical Pubs site for the South East of England by street address, surname and known pub names powered by FreeFind
If you have a query then try the search engine first, if you have something to add to the historical Pubs site, please email - and as an added incentive, - if you offer useful information for a Public House or Beer House, then I will usually add lots of extra detail / landlords. All non-copyright pictures are always welcome; BUT, if I do not have relevant pictures on the site, then I do not know where to find them.

Spread Eagle, North Street, Prittlewell

Spread Eagle, North Street, Prittlewell

25th July 1999

Taken by Stephen Parker

Stephen informs that the Spread Eagle was once connected with the cruel sport of cock fighting. The Chelmsford Chronicle of 2 March 1787 announced that a main of cocks was to be fought here on the 7th of the month between 'the gentlemen of that place and the gentlemen of Great Wakering'. The Spread Eagle was reconstructed in 1923. The only reminder of its past is its coaching yard where the Southend-Cambridge coach picked up passengers.

I get hundreds of emails every day, fortunately most 'spam mails' are deleted by my mail scan settings. The final emails are delivered to various email addresses, and replying to these are not always successful. If you do not hear from me in a timely fashion, please feel free to email again, I do not mind! This is a pure PUBS history site, I doubt if I know where the PUBS are NOW, but try the site for where they were a hundred years ago, again enjoy!
