Cock, Stock

The Historical Directory of Pubs in the South East of England, including London

Search the Historical Pubs site for the South East of England by street address, surname and known pub names powered by FreeFind
If you have a query then try the search engine first, if you have something to add to the historical Pubs site, please email - and as an added incentive, - if you offer useful information for a Public House or Beer House, then I will usually add lots of extra detail / landlords. All non-copyright pictures are always welcome; BUT, if I do not have relevant pictures on the site, then I do not know where to find them.

Cock, Stock

Cock, Stock

13th August 1999

"The parish boundary between Buttsbury and Stock used to run through the middle of Stock high street and literally through the middle of the Cock Inn. There is a story that a stranger fell down dead in the pub and it had to be decided who was going to bury him, Stock or Buttsbury. In the end they decided that whose ever area his head was in would bury him!!"

Supplied by Anne Major

The ghost of the stranger in the above tale is said to still haunt The Cock Inn today

I get thousands of emails every day, fortunately most 'spam mails' are deleted by my mail scan settings. The final several hundred emails are to various email addresses, and replying to these are not always successful. If you do not hear from me in a timely fashion, please feel free to email again, I do not mind! This is a pure PUBS history site, I doubt if I know where the PUBS are NOW, but try the site for where they were a hundred years ago, again enjoy!
